330 kVA Custom Diesel Generator for Irish Quarry Operations
When a quarry operator in Ireland needed a robust power solution capable of withstanding the demands of an active extraction environment, they turned to EA Powers to deliver a purpose-built solution.
The result was a 330 kVA custom-built Diesel Generator set, powered by a Baudouin engine and paired with a Stamford alternator — a combination chosen for its proven reliability and ability to respond effectively to the kind of sudden, unpredictable power demands that quarry operations routinely place on a generator.
Quarry environments present a unique set of engineering challenges. Equipment must contend not only with heavy electrical loads, but also with the physical rigours of a highly mobile, rugged setting. Step loads — the sudden application or removal of large electrical loads — are a constant reality in this line of work, placing significant stress on generating equipment that isn't built to handle them. This unit was specifically engineered with that in mind.
To address the demands of the environment, the set features a heavy-duty bunded, bumper-type base frame, providing both the structural integrity needed for repeated relocation and the fuel containment required by environmental best practice. Rigid Anti-Vibration Mounts (AVMs) are incorporated throughout, protecting the internal components from the constant vibration typical of quarry sites and ensuring long-term mechanical stability.
For safe and practical power distribution on site, the unit is also fitted with an RCD-protected 125A outlet socket, giving site engineers a reliable and safety-compliant access point to the generator's output, wherever it's needed on site.
This project is a strong example of EA Powers' ability to engineer generator solutions that go beyond standard specifications — tailoring every aspect of the build to the specific operational and environmental demands of the client.
